There can only be one King. by BlackMatter234 There can only be one King. by BlackMatter234
I Finished it!!!!! my 3d/Digital painted drawing of Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah. This is one of my tribute for the good news I heard for the new Godzilla Sequel. As you can tell I am a big fan of Godzilla and all the toho Kaiju's he fights and mostly big fan of making monsters in general. anyways, this piece took a lot of thinking. the planning part was extremely difficult, I wanted to do a piece where it shows Godzilla fighting king Ghidorah, one on one but the problem is I want to focus on the head of king Ghidorah (at least one of them) and focus closely on the new Godzilla using one of my favorite facial and body gesture from the new movie right before when he is about to roar or breathe out his atomic breath. originally I wanted to really show more of king Ghidorah but could not accomplish it without making to much negative space and mostly I did not want to draw the eyes away from the king of monsters making Godzilla the main center point. as for rendering, texturing, and LIGHTING!!! it was difficult because not only king ghidorah is gold but I have to somehow make it still gold reflecting blue light from Godzilla's mouth and spine in a dark environment while still focusing on the global illumination from the environment and the natural lighting from the horizon. as for the perspective, it was fun to find out how I want it. at first I was going to make the camera view look up showing there massive scale, but it would of eliminate the heads behind Godzilla + I thought it would be fun to show the building break apart as Godzilla slams the right head into it.

Sweet mother of Mothra this is amazing! I'm not even sure where to begin with this! The colors are so bold, and really match the tone of the film. They also blend well with each other and the background. Also, the details in this image is incredible! Not only can you see every scale, muscle, and expression on Godzilla and Ghidorah, but also the scenario. Your sucked right into the action, and you can feel the raw power on display here. All in all, this is simply a masterpiece and you really need to be a concept artist. I can't wait to see more Godzilla artwork from you!

Holy crap you've done it again. You have once again created another piece that could be a scene from the movie. Godzilla looks great as always. And Ghidorah, he looks awesome. His appearance definitely meets Legendary's standards. The lighting is perfect to give it that feeling for the atmosphere. Even the sky has some kind of aesthetic feel to it. The red eyes on Ghidorah are new but they actually make him look badass. Even his teeth look badass. Even the lighting with Godzilla's breath and Ghidorah's breath, the lighting on both are perfect. With Legendary making more Godzilla sequels for the Legendary Godzilla, we can all imagine that all these monsters are going to looking badass. Legendary should definitely make the monsters look like the way you do. Because you make them look like potential looks.

This is frakkin' incredible; I hope the Legendary Ghidorah looks as epic as yours!

When I hear Mothra and Ghidorah were on their way to the big screen, my little fanboy heart nearly gave out. On the topic of origins, I think keeping it alien but not making it blatant would be perfectly fine. Like, he crashes on earth, a cosmic terror that nobody can understand with goals we can't imagine. If you keep it unexplained, an alien origin would work perfectly. I just hope they don't have him mind-controlled; Big Gold is too epic IMO to ever bow before...well...anything really.

Anyways, I would love to see more Ghidorah from you, maybe a solo picture like you gave Mothra or Rodan! Please?

Excuse me Black Matter, but is Ghidorah's Keiser form or his ordinary form?
BlackMatter234 Featured By Owner 2 days ago  Hobbyist General Artist
ordinary, not much of a fan of keiser

I don't think I know enough about art to give this either the proper critique or praise it deserves, but I can't ignore how amazing this looks. My only problem is with figuring just what happened to Ghidorah in this picture. Was his central head just ripped off? Because otherwise something in the perspective seems off to me. Then again, that could just be what such an epic battle would look like from a bug's eye view and I'm not used to seeing things consistently to scale. Regardless, I want to reiterate just how great I think this picture is.

On the subject of the movie, I'm actually hoping that they keep King Ghidorah's origin as a cosmic horror. The Godzilla 2014 movie really drove home just how terrifying and bleak it could be in a world where giant monsters are real and humans are quite literally beneath their notice (mother MUTO in rampage mode excluded). Ghidorah as a cosmic horror underline's that aspect and augments it: we are not simply small on our world, we are small in the universe as well.

Besides, the most likely other origin reads too much like a script for a Syfy Channel movie: a conspiracy organization like Monarch, but substantially less ethical and more insane has been collecting discarded bits of monster DNA (from bones like the ones the MUTO cocoon's were found in, blood left over from the battle in San Francisco, etc.) and splicing them together. Throw too many kaiju genes in at once, add in a lab accident and a reluctance to sacrifice decades of mad scientific research creates King Ghidorah.

I honestly think they'll have more trouble with Mothra. She has always been depicted as having some kind of divine/magical/mystic aspect in all previous appearances. Although it would be interesting if they were all holdouts from another era. They've established Godzilla as being from the Permian age (and fun fact, this means he isn't a dinosaur in this incarnation – he's too old to be a dinosaur!), so they could have Rodan representing one of the ages of the dinosaurs (Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous), and even Mothra could be from the Carboniferous (the age of the giant bugs – seriously, look it up). Even Ghidorah could be the last of his kind, although he'd have to be from the Cambrian Explosion (look that up sometime when you're bored – a three-headed dragon is tame compared to the things they find in the Burgess Shale).

Wow, I really did not mean to ramble on like that. Anyway, this is great and I hope to see more in the future.
